On a Chromebook
PhaseStation runs on ChromeOS through its built-in Linux. Same plugin, same LITE / FULL, same license key. Setup takes about 5 minutes the first time.
Not sure which? Most Chromebooks are Intel / AMD. ARM ones (MediaTek, Snapdragon) - ARM version. Settings > About ChromeOS > Diagnostics shows your chip.
Turn on Linux
Settings > About ChromeOS > Developers > Linux development environment > Turn on. Give it at least 4 GB of disk when it asks. It sets itself up in a few minutes.
School or work Chromebook? Some have Linux switched off by the admin - if you don't see the option, that's why.
Install PhaseStation
Download the Chromebook file above, open the Files app, and double-click it. Press Install. ChromeOS installs it with Linux for you.
Open it
Open the launcher, go into the Linux apps folder and click PHASESTATION. It starts as LITE - to unlock FULL go to the SYSTEM tab, press GET FULL VERSION, paste your key, press ACTIVATE (full steps).
Plug in your controller
Use a USB cable, then Settings > About ChromeOS > Developers > Linux development environment > Manage USB devices and switch your controller on.
ChromeOS doesn't pass Bluetooth controllers to Linux yet, so a cable is the way. No controller? The mouse works for everything.
Good to know
- Mic / audio in: same Linux settings page > Allow Linux to access your microphone.
- As a plugin: the VST3 installs to
/usr/lib/vst3, where Linux music apps (REAPER, Bitwig) find it. - Smooth on any Chromebook: PhaseStation picks a light performance mode by itself on Chromebooks, so the sound never stutters. Change it in SETTINGS > FEEL.
- Updating: download the new file and double-click it again. Your skins, saves and license stay.
